The first time I used it was when we were behind on opening credits for the quarter.
Now normally we keep up just fine but the two previous months we were barely on
target and in the first week of the last month we were 35% in the hole, so I needed
something to pick up the pace. I opened my package and found 4 locations that would
be within driving distance from us and picked Las Vegas w/ $500 in spending bonuses,
Lake Tahoe, Disneyland and Napa Valley. The contest was that for every credit they
processed, they were entered into a drawing to win their choice of one of four 3day
2night accommodations. The stipulation was that we had to surpass our credit goal
by 15% which is 5% above our normal stretch. This left us 3 weeks to make up the
loss and reach our new stretch goal.
In the three weeks that passed, even associates that NEVER opened credits were
entered in to the drawing! Several times even!! It was exciting to see and every
once in a while I would walk into the break room and hear someone saying what their
choice would be. The Friday before the quarters end we were at our goal but with
only 2 days left every associate wanted to get in as many more times as they could.
We ended up at 19% above our goal!!
It was the best contest I had ever run and since then have run several more.
I also started to incorporate it into the operations behind the scenes in the warehouse
so that those who worked off the floor would have an extra incentive for meeting
productivity goals. One of this quarters incentives is to have a drawing for a 5
day 4 night cruise which means everything has to run smoothly from the truck unload
team, to the merchandise team, to the sales floor team, to the recovery team and
finally the cashiers. Each team is being entered as they make productivity goals
that have been established and we make our sales stretch goal. I have no doubt in
my mind that we’ll make it and that some lucky person on my team will be going on
an awesome cruise this year!!

“I gave away a Disneyland Vacation, Anaheim, CA. For our Boys and Girls Club
at Church to use in a raffle. We try to support the kids as much as possible, and
I thought maybe this would help them out, as last year they only made a couple hundred
dollars. They advertised ahead of time, that the vacation would be raffled, to see
if it would generate more interest. Four times the number of people came
to the function! There was so much excitement throughout the raffle and when
they held up the framed certificate, every child ran to find their parents and/or
grandparents to bid. One of the club directors started the bidding, then one after
another when a grandmother upped the bid to $500! She was going to give it to her
family because they had never been to a Disney facility. When all was said and done
one of the parents had bid $675 and when they said "SOLD" he jumped out of
